The Product: Industrial Diamond Dust
The main objective of CDP is to viably process CO2 into environmentally friendly industrial diamond dust or “envirodiamond”. The physical characteristics of our product should meet or exceed the competition’s because the ETI’s diamond dust is not machined from coarser diamond and therefore has a rougher surface. Envirodiamond is cheaper to produce by about 50% relative to the competition who use detonation techniques with other diamond-making materials.
Diamond dust is nano to micron-sized particulate diamond mainly used for grinding, lapping and polishing applications in the abrasives industry. Diamond dust can easily be fused with metallic or organic binding agents to produce what the industry refers to as metal-bond or resin-bond diamond - used for manufacturing diamond cutting tools.
In the industry, explosive diamond is harder and preferred to alternative diamond dust such as material recovered from processing coarser diamond. The reason is utility – explosive diamond material lasts longer due to its harder properties and rougher edges when compared to more heavily processed, recycled, or mined diamond dust.
Overall, our product will offer ideal and preferred physical characteristics for diamond consumers. ETI’s post-detonation process involves cleaning the diamond material and sorting the particles according to size as per customer specifications. Product will appear as a grey fine powder packaged in plastic capped containers that hold approximately 10,000 carats (2 kg or 4.4 lb), which is the size of a typical order. The customer pays for shipping.
The Clinton Administration Executive Order entitled “Federal Recycling, Acquisition and Use of Environmentally Preferable Products and Services” requires government agencies and those doing business under government contract to use “environmentally preferable” products made from recycled materials. Environmental concerns are shifting product consumption. The greener the process, the more likely the consumer will choose Envirodiamond. Canada shares a similar policy, the Policy on Green Procurement.
