I would like to take this opportunity to share with you why I have started EnviroDiamond Technologies Inc. and this diamond project.
It all started on March 28, 2007. My wife, Lisa, and I were talking about environmental problems and global warming from CO2 and she asked me a question: “You’re a chemical engineer… can’t you just pull the carbon out of the CO2 and stack it somehow?” At that moment I was struck with a clear vision in my mind of a process that would rip the oxygens off the CO2 and release great energy.
“I can’t pull the carbons out but I can pull the oxygens off leaving the carbon behind! Actually, if the reaction happens fast enough, that mixture would behave like an explosive and detonating it would cause the carbon that is left behind to emerge as diamond.” I didn’t even know at the time that over 90% of industrial diamond dust is synthetic and some is manufactured through a detonation process.
On March 28 an idea came to me about manufacturing a lucrative commodity, diamond dust, from the greenhouse gas CO2. Diamond dust, I have learned, is used mainly in the abrasives industry for cutting, grinding and polishing applications. I discovered that the sales potential supported pursuing tests to determine the viability of the technology. I have since proven that the mixture is indeed detonatable and lab analysis from Queen’s shows the presence of sp3 carbon bonding – the type of bonding in diamond. Envirodiamond Technologies Inc. was created to develop this diamond project and to explore mining applications with the formulation. We are small right now but I envision a prosperous company in the near future that pays its employees well and rewards hard work, innovation and creativity. Right now I am raising money to proceed with patenting and commercialization testing. I have built a good relationship with Nordex Explosives, the location for continued testing. I have also generated positive field and lab results, peer interest and positive reviews of the technology, pilot plant plans are complete and I am ready.
